We at Rubijoy love working with local talent, whether it be artists, carpenters, wild flower florists or any of the other interesting and wonderful people we meet along our way.
The first of our collaborations ticks all the boxes for us: local, talented, grateful for the amazing planet we live on, and conscious of how it's up to each one of us to up-cycle, recycle and reduce the tons of waste that gets dumped into landfills every day.
We're so happy to introduce artist, JOHANNAH FAWTHROP, and are so excited to add some of her creations to our decorations catalogue (like her amazing dream catchers, made from mountain willow and hazel grown on her farm, vintage doilies and recycled curtains).
"My name is Johannah Fawthrop. I am an up-cycling artist and designer. I grew up in inner city London and have been living in the Pyrenees for 10 years. In addition to being creative I am a mother of 3, an organic mountain farmer, a “gîte” host and support my partner Anders with his ethical catering business.
Between growing up in London and living in France I traveled a lot, and this was largely when my fascination for re-purposing, reusing and recycling began.
When my children were young, I collected plastic bottle lids on beaches and made temporary mosaics, I made sculptures out of plastic bottles and ‘Wonky Blocks’ a family game loosely based on Jenga using waste off cuts from local carpenters.
Here in France this up-cycling fascination now extends to ‘vintage’.... as I peruse the bric-a-brac outlets, I find myself asking how can these obsolete but beautiful objects be reused?
This questioning led me to Sandra at Rubijoy and our joint creativity has subsequently led to a wonderful catalogue of boho, rustic and vintage inspired lighting, signage, games and backdrops to make your wedding day special and unique.
If you have a creative idea for your special day, I would be happy to discuss this with you.
